About the Author: Lucy Maud Montgomery (born Nov. 30, 1874, Clifton, P.E.I., Can.—died April 24, 1942, Toronto). She was raised by her grandparents in Cavendish, which is what she based Avonlea on.  Montgomery published her first poem at age 15.
